What kind of beers will you be drinking in 2019? Something Hoppy? Fruity? Low in alcohol? Read and find out our picks for the beer to make you cheer in the coming year.

Healthy Drinkers – Erdinger Alkoholfrei – 0.5% Wheat Beer

Towards the end of 2018, there was a growing trend for low alcohol and alcohol-free beers, which is expected to continue into this year. Erdinger has created a wheaty German bottled beer that, as well as having low alcohol, it’s promoted as a healthy drink designed to give its drinkers a health kick after exercise. All this comes without the lost of the impressive tastes and aromas of German wheat beers.

A Classic – MeanTime London Pale Ale – 4.3% APA

150 years ago, the bitter beer style, Pale Ale was in such high demand that brewers had to import hops from America to sedate the need. Based on MeanTimes APA it’s easy to see why. Mixed with local Kentish Goldings, the complex citrus aroma combines perfectly with the bitterness to make a truly refreshing beer perfect for a sunny beer garden or a quiet night in.

Pallet change – Red Stripe Dragon Stout – 7.5% Stout

This Jamaican Export has been brewed there since 1920. The very dark colour and slightly burned aroma might give a bad first impression, but the taste is unexpectedly sweet. The distinct vanilla and caramel undertones make this a very easy to drink beer. Dragon stout is actually too sweet to accompany a meal but goes well with chocolaty desserts and ice cream.

Over 700 breweries opened last year alone so the list of great beers will be endless. I have no doubt that 2019 will be a fantastic year for beer.
